New Delhi: As India gears up to celebrate its 73rd Independence Day, CNN-News18 has announced the launch of Mahatma@150, a special programming initiative to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary. Starting August 15th, the channel will take the viewers on an exciting and engaging journey about the most celebrated Indian political figure in modern history.
Recognizing the challenges and struggles faced by Gandhi in modern India’s context and saluting his achievements, CNN-News18 will reminisce his life and his philosophies. The channel will showcase select stories exploring symbols and cities which were touched by Mahatma Gandhi such as Naokhali, West Bengal where he spent the midnight of 14th August 1947.
From 1982’s Gandhi to Munna Bhai, the channel will also take a look at the influence of Gandhi in the Indian film industry. CNN-News18’s Entertainment Editor, Rajeev Masand in his award-winning show ‘Bollywood Roundtables’ will speak to renowned actors and filmmakers including veteran actor Kamal Haasan who directed critically acclaimed Hey Ram. The channel will also telecast ‘Gandhi in UK’ with Sanjay Suri, Political Editor, Europe who will look back at Gandhi’s years in the United Kingdom, his London house, the monumental Gandhi statue and other places in the country associated with him.
Commemorating the life of ‘The Father of the Nation’, who shaped India’s independence, the channel will revisit important milestones in the history along with the significant people and places associated with him.
