New Delhi: Oxford University Press (OUP), a department of the University of Oxford, has appointed Sukanta Das as the Managing Director for its India branch. In addition to his role in India, Sukanta will also oversee OUP’s operations across Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and the UAE.
With over two decades of diverse experience across commercial and consumer sectors, Sukanta brings a wealth of expertise from large corporations and start-up ventures in India. Based in Delhi-NCR, he will lead OUP’s strategic growth and expansion across the region, driving the company’s comprehensive portfolio that includes school education, higher education, academic programs, English language teaching, blended learning, and dictionaries.
Announcing the appointment, Fathima Dada, Managing Director – Education, Oxford University Press, said, “Sukanta brings with him extensive consumer expertise and a wealth of experience. We are confident that he will leverage his knowledge and insights to benefit our mission of advancing knowledge and learning. We believe he will be a valuable addition to the India team, helping us continue to grow in the region.”
Prior to joining OUP, Sukanta held a prominent leadership role at Vodafone Idea, where he led the largest cluster, Gujarat, as Business Head. His career journey also includes key leadership positions at renowned organizations in India, such as ITC, Eveready, CEAT, Vodafone, and Firefox Bikes (a Hero Motors Company). Sukanta is an alumnus of Calcutta University, the New Delhi Institute of Management, and IIM Ahmedabad.
With his proven track record and leadership expertise, Sukanta is poised to bring fresh perspectives to OUP, continuing its sustained success in the dynamic and ever-evolving publishing industry.
Sukanta Das succeeds Sumanta Datta, who moved on from OUP in November 2024.
