Mumbai: Universal Music India (UMI), a part of Universal Music Group and one of the country’s foremost music-led entertainment labels, has entered into a licensing agreement with Blisstainment, the music retail brand owned by Basking Shark Private Limited. This partnership will see Blisstainment become the official licensor and distributor of vinyl records from UMI’s extensive domestic repertoire, remastered and released on premium 180g 12-inch records.
As part of the deal, several iconic Hindi film soundtracks and I-pop albums will now be available in physical vinyl format, giving Indian music lovers and collectors access to timeless classics and modern hits. The partnership also celebrates a key milestone: the 50th anniversary of Sholay, with the film’s legendary soundtrack soon to be released on vinyl.

Gaurav Chaturvedi, VP, Head Commercial Music, Universal Music India, said, “UMI has a rich domestic catalogue – both from Bollywood and iconic pop artists that reflects musical excellence over the years and across genres. Through this partnership with Blisstainment, we’re excited to bring both beloved classics and contemporary hits to fans in a format that is both nostalgic and premium. Owning a record offers a listening experience like no other and the power of our catalogue combined with some of the biggest pop hits of recent years in this ageless format, will truly resonate with collectors and new-age listeners alike.”

Bikram Gurung, Founder, Blisstainment, added, “Partnering with Universal Music India allows us to offer vinyl collectors access to some of the most treasured and popular catalogues in Indian music, in this rich format. This is a proud moment for us, and we look forward to curating a meaningful experience for audiences who value both sound and storytelling. Our power lies in knowing our consumers & in our distribution network, and we are eager to have Universal Music India’s catalogue reach the true music aficionados.”
This collaboration underscores a growing trend among Indian listeners seeking high-quality physical music formats and marks a revival of vinyl culture in the country. The first three titles under this licensing deal – the soundtracks of Bombay, Yeh Vaada Raha, and Rocky – are now available via select retailers and online at www.blisstainment.com.
