Mumbai: Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (‘Z’), one of India’s foremost content and technology powerhouses, has launched a first-of-its-kind initiative to discover and mentor the country’s next generation of screenwriters. Titled Zee WRITERS ROOM, the ambitious project aims to identify 100 promising storytellers and groom them to create content across Zee’s television, digital, and film platforms.
More than a talent search, Zee WRITERS ROOM is positioned as a creative movement aligned with the company’s brand philosophy ‘Yours Truly, Z’. The initiative underscores Zee’s commitment to building a sustainable talent pipeline by unlocking fresh perspectives and storytelling voices from across India.
Rolling out across 80 cities and 32 on-ground event centers, the multi-language campaign is supported by a high-decibel promotional strategy across on-air, digital, and offline touchpoints. Targeting storytellers in Hindi, Marathi, Bangla, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, the programme invites aspiring writers to participate in a structured, multi-stage selection process—including a written test, evaluation of submissions, and panel interviews.

Speaking on the launch, Raghavendra Hunsur, Chief Creative Officer, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., said, “As one of India’s largest storytellers, it’s our duty to nurture the next wave of writing talent. With Zee WRITERS ROOM, we’re building a space where raw voices and unheard ideas find structure. This is not a contest—it’s a commitment. Our goal is to empower writers with craft, courage, and opportunity.”
Kartik Mahadev, Chief Marketing Officer, ZEEL, added, “This initiative strengthens our brand promise by investing in the craft of storytelling and fostering a vibrant writing community. We aim to cultivate writers who can shape diverse, differentiated narratives for the future.”
Samrat Ghosh, Chief Cluster Officer – East, North, Premium Cluster, said, “Bengal has a storied legacy of literary and cinematic brilliance. With Zee WRITERS ROOM, we’re creating a modern platform for Bengali storytellers to bridge tradition and contemporary creativity.”
Siju Prabhakaran, Chief Cluster Officer – South & West, emphasized the significance for southern markets, “The South and West are home to dynamic storytelling cultures. This initiative will help channel regional creativity into structured, screen-ready content.”
Unlike conventional writing workshops, Zee WRITERS ROOM is designed for writers who already show a spark—whether self-taught or trained—and have demonstrated potential through college events, online platforms, or writing groups but haven’t yet broken into the industry.
Out of the thousands expected to apply, 70 writers and 30 emerging experts will ultimately be onboarded to the Zee WRITERS ROOM. There, they will be mentored by industry experts to develop scripts and story concepts that fuel Zee’s content engine across formats and regions.
