Noida: Dish TV India Limited has strengthened the leadership team of its connected digital entertainment platform, VZY, with the appointment of Varun Jha as Chief Business Officer (CBO), reinforcing the company’s strategy to expand its digital and non-DTH entertainment business.
In his new role, Jha will lead VZY’s overall business charter, overseeing growth, monetisation, strategic partnerships, consumer strategy and new business opportunities as Dish TV accelerates its transformation into a broader connected digital entertainment group.
VZY serves as Dish TV’s connected entertainment ecosystem, integrating streaming services, live television and connected viewing experiences across mobile devices and larger screens. The platform aims to simplify content discovery and consumption as entertainment increasingly becomes fragmented across platforms, formats and devices.
Jha brings more than 18 years of experience across fintech, payments, e-commerce, mobility, entertainment and edtech. He was an early member of the leadership team at PayU India, where he played a key role in scaling the company’s consumer payments business. He later led Airtel’s digital entertainment businesses, including Wynk Music and Airtel Xstream, while also holding leadership positions at consumer technology companies such as Snapdeal, Zoomcar and Cuemath.
Commenting on the appointment, Manoj Dobhal, CEO & Executive Director, Dish TV India Limited, said, “As Dish TV group evolves beyond its traditional DTH business, building meaningful and scalable non-DTH revenue streams is an important strategic priority for us, and Vzy represents one of our key bets in that direction. Building a new-age digital business within an established organization requires a rare combination of entrepreneurial thinking and the ability to operate at scale. Varun brings that combination. Having worked across startups as well as large consumer organizations, and across both 0-to-1 and scale-up journeys, he brings deep experience in business-model innovation, consumer businesses and digital transformation. We believe his leadership will be valuable as we build Vzy into a significant growth engine for the group.”
Highlighting the company’s vision for the platform, Gaurav Goel, Chief Strategy Officer, Dish TV India Limited, said, “Entertainment today is abundant, but the consumer experience is increasingly fragmented. Audiences navigate multiple apps, subscriptions, formats and screens, while attention spans continue to shrink. We believe there is a significant opportunity to make entertainment simpler, more intuitive and deeply personalised.
Our ambition with Vzy is to build a digitally native, AI-led entertainment ecosystem that reimagines how consumers discover and experience content across screens. To build that kind of proposition, we need leaders with strong consumer internet DNA and experience in category creation, innovation and scaling new businesses. Varun’s journey across payments, commerce, mobility and entertainment, and his experience across startups as well as large-scale organizations, makes him particularly well suited to lead this charter. We are excited about what Vzy can become under his leadership.”
Sharing his thoughts on the new role, Varun Jha, Chief Business Officer, VZY, said, “We are entering one of the most interesting phases in the evolution of entertainment. Consumers have never had more content, yet discovering what to watch, navigating fragmented services and moving seamlessly across screens has arguably never been more complex.
I believe the next generation of entertainment platforms will be built not merely around content aggregation, but around discovery, personalisation, simplicity and habit. Vzy has an exciting opportunity to rethink that experience for India at scale. I am excited to work with the team to build a consumer-first, AI-led entertainment platform and create a meaningful new digital growth engine for Dish TV group.”
An alumnus of the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay, and Mumbai University, Jha will play a key role in driving VZY’s business growth as Dish TV looks to diversify beyond its traditional DTH operations and strengthen its presence in India’s fast-evolving digital entertainment landscape.
