Google expands AI Mode Search to five new languages including Hindi

After English-only launch, Google adds five new languages, deepening adoption and competing directly with AI-driven rivals in search.

Google is widening the reach of its AI-powered search experience, AI Mode, by rolling it out in five additional languages: Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese. Until now, the feature was restricted to English, despite having been available for more than six months.

The expansion significantly boosts accessibility for users across Asia and Latin America. “With this expansion, more people can now use AI Mode to ask complex questions in their preferred language, while exploring the web more deeply,” said Hema Budaraju, VP of Product Management at Google Search, in a company blog post.

AI Mode first debuted in March as an experimental feature for Google One AI Premium subscribers, powered by a customized version of Gemini 2.5. It blends multimodal and reasoning capabilities to provide contextual answers and is seen as Google’s direct response to rival AI-driven search platforms such as Perplexity and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search.

The product has been on a rapid global rollout trajectory. Last month, Google expanded the English version of AI Mode to 180 new markets after earlier launches in the U.S., U.K., and India.

Beyond standard search enhancements, AI Mode is gradually incorporating agentic features. In August, Google enabled the system to handle restaurant reservations, with further capabilities — including local service bookings and event ticket purchases — in the pipeline. These services remain limited to U.S.-based Google AI Ultra subscribers under a Labs experiment. The Ultra tier, targeted at enterprise and professional users, comes at a premium subscription price of $249.99 per month.

Currently, AI Mode is available via a dedicated tab on search results and a button within the search bar. Industry watchers expect Google to eventually make it the default search experience, a shift hinted at last week by DeepMind’s group product manager Logan Kilpatrick in a public exchange on X.

By steadily layering advanced capabilities and widening language access, Google appears to be laying the groundwork for AI Mode to become the centerpiece of its future search strategy, reshaping how billions engage with the web.
