Mumbai: KPMG International has named Gary Wingrove as its next Global Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, with his four-year term set to begin on 1 October 2026. The appointment follows his nomination by the KPMG Global Board and election by the firm’s Global Council.
Wingrove currently serves as Global Chief Operating Officer and is part of KPMG’s Global Management Team. In that capacity, he has played a central role in shaping and executing the firm’s global strategy, including efforts around operational integration, regional clustering, investment alignment, alliance expansion, and the continued scaling of the KPMG Delivery Network. He has also overseen key aspects of the organisation’s digital transformation and the deployment of AI-led solutions across the network.
Before taking on the global COO role, Wingrove led KPMG Australia as CEO from 2013 to 2021. During that period, the firm nearly doubled its revenue, profitability and headcount, while also driving cultural and operational change.
He will take over from Bill Thomas, who has served as Global Chairman and CEO since 2017. Thomas’s tenure has been marked by significant global expansion and strategic transformation. Under his leadership, KPMG said global revenues rose 55% on a constant-currency basis, while the organisation grew to more than 275,000 employees worldwide. He also led the rollout of the firm’s Collective Strategy, refreshed governance structures, and deepened alliances with major technology partners including Microsoft, Google Cloud, SAP, Oracle and ServiceNow.
Commenting on the transition, Thomas described Wingrove as an outstanding leader and expressed confidence in his ability to guide the organisation into its next phase of growth. Wingrove, in turn, said he was honoured by the opportunity and signalled a continued focus on agility, expertise, culture and AI-enabled client solutions.
The leadership change comes as KPMG continues to sharpen its global strategy and strengthen its technology-led consulting and advisory capabilities
