Jiostar flags alleged breach of Delhi HC order in Legends League Case; Sony halts telecast
Share Share ShareShare

Mumbai: Jiostar India Pvt. Ltd. has flagged an alleged breach of a Delhi High Court order in relation to the Legends League Cricket Masters T20 tournament, raising fresh concerns around compliance with media rights and broadcast regulations in India’s sports ecosystem.

The development follows an order dated March 18, 2026, wherein the Hon’ble Delhi High Court restrained Absolute Legends Sports Pvt. Ltd. and Blue God Entertainment from creating third-party rights or dealing with the media and commercial rights of the tournament. Despite the subsistence of this restraint order, Jiostar observed that the league continued to be hosted, aired, and streamed across multiple platforms, indicating an apparent violation of the Court’s directions.

Subsequently, Jiostar is understood to have issued formal communications to the concerned parties, urging immediate compliance with the Court’s order. Following this, Sony reportedly ceased the broadcast of the league on its television channel.

However, the league was allegedly still accessible on other platforms, including YouTube and certain digital streaming services. In response, Jiostar is learnt to have initiated legal proceedings by filing a contempt application before the Hon’ble Court, citing wilful non-compliance with its directives.

The matter was mentioned before the Court on March 20, 2026, and was taken up on an urgent basis. During the hearing, Absolute Legends is stated to have informed the Court that the broadcast had been halted and that it had complied with the directions. The company further undertook to cease all activities related to the league and to remove all associated content from its platforms.

It is also understood that Absolute Legends has committed to taking prompt action on any further instances of non-compliance brought to its notice.

The episode underscores the growing importance of contractual clarity and strict adherence to media rights in sports broadcasting. Industry observers note that the case highlights the need for robust enforcement mechanisms as the value and complexity of sports media rights continue to rise.

Jiostar is said to be closely monitoring the situation as the matter progresses.
