Mumbai: Visa has named Suresh Sethi as its India Country Head, signalling a strategic leadership shift as the global payments major sharpens its focus on one of its fastest-growing markets.
The appointment comes at a time when India’s digital payments ecosystem is witnessing accelerated expansion, intensified competition, and rapid innovation. Visa is looking to deepen its footprint across the country and the wider region by strengthening leadership with deep domain expertise.
Sethi brings a diverse background spanning corporate banking, retail financial services, mobile money, and government technology initiatives. Prior to joining Visa, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Protean eGov Technologies, where he played a key role in driving large-scale digital infrastructure initiatives.
He succeeds Sandeep Ghosh, who exits after a tenure of over four years with Visa. The transition marks a new phase for the company as it seeks to consolidate its leadership in India’s evolving payments landscape.
Sethi began his career at Citigroup, where he spent 14 years working across India, Africa, South America, and the United States. His experience during this period was centred on transaction banking services within the corporate banking division, giving him a strong foundation in global financial systems.
The Visa management on his appointment stated, “Visa has appointed Suresh Sethi as Group Country Manager for India and South Asia effective 27 April 2026. Suresh is a tenured leader with 30 years of leadership experience across the financial sector.”
With India emerging as a critical growth engine for digital transactions, Sethi’s appointment is expected to bolster Visa’s efforts to expand its payments business, navigate competitive pressures, and capitalise on the country’s ongoing shift towards a digital-first economy.
