Chennai: The Hindu Group has appointed seasoned journalist Muralitharan K as Senior Assistant Editor, strengthening its editorial leadership with a professional who brings over two decades of cross-platform media experience.
With a career spanning more than 25 years, Muralitharan has worked across television, digital, and print journalism, covering a wide spectrum of stories at both national and international levels. His on-ground reporting experience includes coverage from the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, reflecting his exposure to global policy and human rights discourse. He has also had professional stints at the BBC’s headquarters in London.
Muralitharan spent a significant part of his career with BBC News as a senior journalist, where he reported extensively on Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, including elections, governance, social justice issues, and cultural developments. His work has been marked by deep regional insight combined with a broader global perspective.
Before joining The Hindu Group, he was associated with Collective Newsroom in a senior editorial capacity. Earlier in his career, he contributed to leading media organisations such as India Today and NDTV Hindu, building a strong foundation in mainstream journalism.
In addition to his newsroom experience, Muralitharan has also served in a diplomatic advisory role as Political and Economic Advisor at the Singapore Consulate General in Chennai, adding a policy-oriented dimension to his professional profile.
His appointment comes at a time when legacy media organisations are increasingly investing in experienced editorial talent to navigate a rapidly evolving news ecosystem.
