Mumbai: Vodafone Idea (Vi) has partnered with Meta to introduce Silent Mobile Verification (SMV) capabilities for Vi subscribers across WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, marking a significant step toward safer, faster and password-less digital authentication experiences.
The solution leverages network-based authentication technology to verify users’ mobile numbers in the background without requiring manual entry of verification codes, switching between applications, or waiting for SMS-based authentication messages. Through the integration, verification requests are validated directly via Vi’s telecom network, enabling a more seamless and secure user experience.
The capability will support multiple user journeys across Meta’s platforms, including new user registration, mobile number verification, login and re-login, account recovery, and authentication during security checks. The companies said the initiative is designed to simplify onboarding, reduce friction, and strengthen protection against phishing attacks and digital identity-related risks.
The partnership comes amid growing efforts by industry stakeholders and policymakers to strengthen digital trust and fraud prevention mechanisms across India’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem. Network-based verification technologies such as SMV are increasingly being viewed as important tools in enabling secure and reliable authentication for digital services.

Commenting on the launch, Abhijit Kishore, CEO, Vodafone Idea Limited, said, “Telecom networks are increasingly playing an important role in enabling safer digital experiences. With millions of consumers relying on Vi’s secure telecom network every day, we can build these experiences on a scale. Through our partnership with Meta, we are enabling SMV capabilities that enhance cyber safety and reduce fraud risks, while creating seamless authentication experiences for users across some of the country’s most widely used digital platforms.”

Arun Srinivas, Managing Director and Country Head, Meta in India said, “Bringing Network-based authentication is a critical step forward in making verification simpler, seamless and more secure for users across our platforms. We’re pleased to work with Vi to bring this capability to their subscribers using WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram.”
The rollout represents a notable milestone in the evolution of telecom network APIs and trusted digital infrastructure in India, as telecom operators increasingly expand their role beyond connectivity to enable security, authentication and digital trust services.
Vi said it will continue collaborating with ecosystem partners, developers and digital platforms to build advanced authentication, intelligence and trust solutions powered by secure telecom network capabilities. The company also plans to expand such services to additional applications and partners over time, with a focus on enhanced authentication, fraud prevention and intelligent risk-based verification use cases.
As digital services become increasingly central to everyday life, the partnership highlights the growing convergence of telecom networks and digital platforms in delivering secure, frictionless and user-centric online experiences.
