Mumbai: Narender Kumar Verma, Chairman of the Diamond Group and one of the pioneering figures in India’s publishing industry, passed away on Saturday. He is remembered as a visionary entrepreneur whose contributions helped shape the country’s publishing landscape over several decades.
The Verma family and the Diamond Group announced his demise, describing him as an extraordinary publisher, respected mentor, and compassionate leader whose work influenced generations of readers, authors, educators, and publishing professionals.
Under Verma’s leadership, Diamond Group emerged as one of India’s leading publishing houses, publishing thousands of books, magazines, comics, and educational titles. The company played a significant role in making literature and learning accessible to readers across the country, while several of its iconic characters and stories became an integral part of the childhood of millions of Indians.
Beyond expanding the publishing business, Verma was recognised for fostering creativity and nurturing talent across the literary ecosystem. His leadership supported countless writers, illustrators, editors, artists, and educators, helping build Diamond Group into a trusted institution in Indian publishing.

The company, along with its employees, authors, artists, publishing partners, and members of the literary fraternity, expressed heartfelt condolences to the Verma family.
According to the family, the final rites will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The funeral procession will depart from his residence in Sector 15A, Noida, at 12:00 PM, followed by the cremation at 1:00 PM at Lodhi Crematorium, New Delhi. Family members have invited those wishing to pay their last respects to join them during the final rites.
