Mumbai: Biju M has announced his departure from Unilever, bringing to a close a 13-year journey with the FMCG major, where he most recently served as Global Head of Data Governance and Privacy. He will now take on a new leadership role focused on AI governance, risk management, and privacy.
Sharing the news on LinkedIn, Biju reflected on his tenure at Unilever, describing it as “far more than a job” and “a defining chapter” of his life. He said the opportunity to build trust and transparency into the digital experiences of more than a billion consumers and over 200,000 Unilever employees had been the defining aspect of his career.
Looking back on his work, Biju noted that while his role centred on areas such as consent management, governance frameworks, and privacy standards, the larger objective was to embed trust into every digital interaction. He emphasised that privacy, governance, security, and transparency are not barriers to innovation but the foundations that will enable organisations to embrace an AI-driven future responsibly.
As he embarks on the next phase of his career, Biju said he will continue to champion AI governance and responsible data practices in service of a purpose he described as “uniting people, data and science to help build a healthier, safer world.”
Before joining Unilever in 2013, Biju was Practice Leader – Information Security and Privacy Consulting Services (London) at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he led the firm’s information security and privacy practice for London-based clients. In that role, he was responsible for developing client relationships, leading large consulting engagements, building specialist teams, and driving the firm’s market growth in information security and privacy services.
Earlier in his career, he served as Enterprise Security, Privacy and Risk Manager at Siemens Enterprise Professional Services in the UK and as Senior Information Security and Data Protection Consultant at Perot Systems. His professional journey began in India with roles at KPMG, MIEL E-Security, and Quality Assurance Institute India, building deep expertise across information security, privacy, governance, and enterprise risk management.
Biju is an alumnus of the University of Oxford, where he completed the Oxford Executive Leadership Programme. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning.
