Mumbai: Ekta Kapoor’s Television and film production company Balaji Telefilms Ltd on Monday said it had entered into a strategic alliance with Kolkata-based Chhayabani Pvt Ltd to create distinctive and contemporary television content.
Chhayabani Balaji Entertainment Pvt Ltd will be developed as a platform that will initially produce television content and gradually scale up to explore other creative opportunities, the firm said in a BSE filing.
“Chhayabani is highly acknowledged for its glorious heritage in the area of entertainment, in Kolkata. This collaboration brings together two media houses with distinctive strengths to explore new formats of television presentation, create exciting high-end scripted content, while also attracting high quality talent,” the company said.
Chhayabani is in to Bengali film production business for the past 50 years and produced movies with veteran director Satyajith Ray.
Last week, Balaji Telefilms announced a tie-up with Indus Media for producing television series for the American market, tvnews4u.com reported on 18th December. With the deal, Balaji secured rights to the TV series Brown Nation, a satirical comedy based on the lives of Indian Americans, which is planned for release in 2015.
