Chennai: Former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran and his son Karan Dayanidhi Maran are set to launch a new digital entertainment venture focused on micro dramas and short-form video content, according to reports.
The upcoming business, which will operate under the newly created Maran Group, is expected to debut as a subscription-led streaming platform aimed at younger, mobile-native audiences. The venture is likely to tap into the growing popularity of short-form drama content, a category that has seen rising traction through platforms such as Pocket TV and Kuku TV.
Industry observers note that the move comes at a time when mobile-first entertainment consumption continues to accelerate in India, particularly among Gen Z and younger millennial viewers seeking bite-sized storytelling formats optimised for smartphones.
According to reports, the streaming business is expected to function largely as a subsidiary within the broader Maran Group, which is being spearheaded by Dayanidhi Maran. The initiative marks the Maran family’s latest foray into the media and entertainment space, expanding beyond their legacy association with traditional broadcasting and television businesses.
Karan Maran, who will lead the venture, is a graduate of the University of Manchester. He has previously founded businesses including Cloutgency, a digital marketing agency, and KKIX. With a background in accounting and finance, he has also worked as a fund manager at MUTIS Ethical Investment Fund.
