IPL 2026 drives 32% surge in Swiggy food orders as fans feast through the season: Report
Share Share ShareShare

Mumbai: Swiggy, India’s on-demand convenience platform, has unveiled its IPL 2026 Food Ordering and Dining Insights, highlighting how the country’s passion for cricket translated into a surge in food delivery and dining-out activity during the tournament.

According to the platform, food delivery orders during IPL 2026 grew by 32.31% year-on-year compared to IPL 2025. Meanwhile, consumers stepping out to watch matches contributed to a 41% year-on-year increase in Swiggy Dineout bookings, while diners collectively saved more than ₹3.5 crore through Dineout offers during the finals weekend between May 29 and May 31.

Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad Lead Match-Day Orders

Swiggy reported that Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad topped the charts for food delivery orders during the Qualifier and Final matches held on May 29 and May 31. Emerging markets such as Surat, Thiruvananthapuram and Vadodara also witnessed strong demand.

Among desserts, Choco Lava Cake, Tender Coconut Ice-cream and Rasmalai emerged as the most ordered items. In the main course category, Chicken Biryani, Chicken Fried Rice and Veg Burgers dominated orders, while Pav Bhaji and Chicken Popcorn were among the most popular snack choices.

During the second qualifier on May 29, food orders peaked at 8:12 PM, crossing 5,200 orders in a single minute. The largest order of the match came from Gurugram, where a customer ordered 45 Special Veg Thalis worth ₹20,205.

Final Match Sparks Massive Ordering Surge

The IPL 2026 final on May 31 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans drove even higher engagement on the platform. Swiggy noted that food orders increased by 30% compared to the second qualifier.

During the final, the platform averaged more than 1,300 orders per minute, with the highest spike occurring at 7:56 PM, when over 6,200 orders were placed in a single minute.

One of the standout orders came from Dharamshala, where a customer placed an extensive order featuring dishes such as Fish in Lemon Butter Sauce, Grilled Chicken Peri-Peri, Chicken 65, and several other items.

Dining-Out Culture Gains Momentum During IPL

Beyond food delivery, IPL 2026 also boosted restaurant visits, with Swiggy Dineout witnessing significant growth throughout the season.

Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune emerged as the leading cities for Dineout bookings during match hours. Among emerging markets, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Lucknow recorded the highest growth in bookings.

A notable highlight came on May 29, when a group of 20 diners in Bengaluru generated a Swiggy Dineout bill worth ₹2,14,061, making it one of the biggest dining transactions recorded during the tournament.

Bengaluru and Gujarat Shine During the Final

On the day of the IPL final, Bengaluru registered the highest number of Swiggy Dineout bookings nationwide, recording a 32% increase compared to May 17. The city also led the country in premium dining bookings during the prime match-viewing window between 7:30 PM and 11:30 PM.

Gujarat also demonstrated strong engagement from cricket fans. Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of Dineout bookings in the state during match hours, while both Surat and Vadodara hosted groups of 30 diners each, making them the largest group dining gatherings in Gujarat during the final.

The insights underscore how IPL continues to serve as a major consumption driver, bringing together food, entertainment and social experiences across India, both at home and at restaurants.
