New Delhi : Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has granted five new television channel licences to Krishna Showbiz Services, R-Vision India and Malayalam Communications.
Krishna Showbiz will launch three general entertainment channels namely Dillagiii, Tak Dhina Din and Mauja Mostii. R-Vision India will launch a general entertainment channel in all Indian languages under the name, RVision. Malayalam Communications which runs channels like Kairali TV, We and People channel will introduce a news channel under the name, Arabia TV.
Arabia TV is likely to be an exclusive news channel for Malayalee audience in Gulf countries and it will commence the operations by mid February.
As of now, the government has permitted 697 TV channels to uplink from India and also to downlink into India. It has allowed 36 TV channels to only uplink from India without downlink options. As many as 93 foreign TV channels were permitted to only downlink into India.
With these five new licences, the number of permitted private satellite TV channels in India has shot up to 826. This includes 405 news and current affairs channels and 421 non-news and current affairs channels, as on 31 December, 2014.
