Mumbai: In a landmark move poised to transform India’s media and entertainment landscape, Prime Focus Group, the world’s largest independent media services powerhouse, has signed an agreement with the Government of Maharashtra to develop a next-generation global entertainment hub in Mumbai.

The multi-year project entails a proposed investment of ₹3,000 crore (approx. $400 million USD) and will see the development of the most digitally connected and technologically advanced content creation ecosystem in the heart of India’s historic film industry. The initiative is expected to create thousands of highly skilled jobs and boost tourism by offering cutting-edge entertainment and lifestyle experiences.

“This development is part of our broader vision for Maharashtra,” said Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra. “From the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train to coastal infrastructure and now this world-class entertainment hub, we are redefining what’s possible in India. Mumbai will continue to lead as the nation’s centre for creative excellence.”

Founded in 1997 by Namit Malhotra, Prime Focus Group owns and operates a vast network of media and entertainment ventures including the eight-time Academy Award®-winning visual effects and animation studio DNEG, the AI-driven tech firm BRAHMA, and content financing and production arm Prime Focus Studios. The company is listed on both the National and Bombay Stock Exchanges.

The newly proposed entertainment district will include:

  • World-class production studios equipped for high-end digital content creation

  • Live entertainment venues, theme parks, and immersive experience centres

  • Luxury lifestyle amenities, including shopping districts, dining hubs, premium hotels, and residential units

Currently, Prime Focus operates one of Asia’s largest production campuses in Mumbai, with eight Hollywood-designed soundstages across a 200,000 sq. ft. facility, alongside DNEG’s post-production studio.

Namit Malhotra, Founder of Prime Focus Group, said: “This project is about more than infrastructure — it’s about creating a global centre of excellence for storytelling, technology, and culture. By combining DNEG’s Oscar-winning VFX, BRAHMA’s cutting-edge AI, and Prime Focus Studios’ production strength, we are building a destination that will put India at the forefront of global content creation.”

He added, “Our mission is to honour the 100-year legacy of Indian cinema by developing an ecosystem that showcases our country’s creative and technical prowess to the world.”

The deal reinforces Maharashtra’s ambitions to be a global leader in both infrastructure and innovation, while cementing Mumbai’s status as a global media capital.
