Chennai : Tamil Satellite channel Star Vijay is gearing up on a brisk phase for the launch of the 9th edition of their primary event property ”Annual Vijay Awards” that acknowledges and celebrates the top performers out of films release in the year 2014.
The 8th Annual Vijay Awards which was held on 5th July 2014 was grand success as the channel delivered a record 14 TVR, Sources from the channel confirmed that Star Vijay has kicked off the 9th Annual Vijay Awards. The promos of the Awards show has already begun and the selection of nominees have also been kick started.
The fans and audience are invited to choose the nominees from a long list of films which were released in 2014 by logging in to a dedicated portal http://www.vijayawards.in/
An array of stars from the film industry, eminent directors, notable producers, top-notch technicians attend the awards show.
The channel has confirmed that Director Balki will be part of an eminent panel of jury members that will decide the winners of the eagerly awaited 9th Annual Vijay Awards.
The award ceremony is likely to be held by the middle of April this year. Sources say that this is the first time that Balki has agreed to be on any jury panel. The other members of the panel are equally eminent in their own right. They are directors K Baghyaraj, Yuhi Sethu, K V Anand, and actress Nadiya.
Disclosing details about the jury, channel’s Vice President (programming) R Mahendran said, “Our panel of judges is truly eminent. We wanted to have experts in all departments on the panel and that is how we arrived at this list of eminent judges. For instance, Yuhi Sethu, who has been with us for the last several years, is a historian and a critic. Director K V Anand is an expert cinematographer and has a sound understanding of commercial cinema. K Baghyaraj’s screenplay and direction are legendary as is Nadia’s acting skills.Every year, we look to take this event one notch higher than the previous year. This year too, we will look to do that.
The channel is also looking to add three or four departments new categories such as sound engineers, visual effects and dubbing artists which is subjected to Jury members decision.
During the previous year’s award ceremony, Veteran Director late Sri. Balu Mahendra was honoured for his contribution to the Tamil Cinema and Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan award for excellence in Indian cinema was awarded to Director Shankar.
