Bengaluru: In a strategic move to consolidate its position as a leader in youth-focused media, Asianet News has announced that Tapan Sharma, currently Chief Operating Officer of its digital news business, will now also head the company’s Music & Entertainment division, which includes IndigoMusic.com and its FM stations in Bengaluru and Goa.
This move underscores Asianet News’ broader ambition to expand its digital-first and youth-centric content offerings, aligning with emerging consumption patterns among India’s urban audience. With Indigo Music positioned as the group’s flagship lifestyle and entertainment brand, the integration aims to create a converged content ecosystem that blends music, pop culture, and digital trends.
Under the new mandate, IndigoMusic.com will act as the umbrella brand, integrating on-air (FM) and online (digital) experiences. Renowned for its curated playlists, vibrant content formats, and engaging social presence, Indigo has already carved a niche among Gen Z and millennial audiences.
Tapan Sharma has been instrumental in steering Asianet News’ digital strategy through multi-language content growth and cross-platform audience expansion. His prior experience within the group’s radio and digital entertainment businesses provides him with a well-rounded understanding of both traditional and emerging formats.
“Indigo Music is the only truly international radio destination in India. We plan to expand this business into retail and experiential domains in the current financial year, while continuing to enrich the lives of international music aficionados in Bengaluru and Goa,” said Tapan Sharma.
“We are going to transform IndigoMusic.com into a lifestyle entertainment destination across platforms for the audience that loves to stay updated on international trends in pop culture.
To accelerate the growth of our Music & Entertainment business, we’re diversifying content across multiple formats—live shows, podcasts, creator collaborations, and interactive segments. This strategy not only enhances listener engagement but also positions Indigo Music as a culture-first platform that connects with the pulse of young India. By expanding into new content types and platforms, we aim to drive deeper connections, boost the station’s reach and solidify our leadership in India’s evolving audio and experiential entertainment ecosystem.
Our vision is to reimagine Indigo Music as a culture-first platform that seamlessly connects with young India across on-air, digital, and social touchpoints. Whether it’s music, memes, or movements, we want to be where it all begins.”
With this leadership move, Asianet News is clearly signaling its intent to be at the forefront of the rapidly evolving digital entertainment and youth media landscape, blending legacy media strengths with new-age content strategies.
