Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), C Joseph Vijay, is set to expand the party’s media presence with the launch of a dedicated news channel, Vettri News, on June 22, coinciding with his birthday.
Information circulating on social media indicates that Vettri News will begin operations as a Tamil-language news and current affairs channel aimed at audiences across Tamil Nadu. The move marks TVK’s entry into the broadcast news space ahead of a crucial phase in the state’s political landscape.
An Instagram post by social media page described the June 22 rollout as a “double celebration” for Vijay’s supporters, claiming that the channel would focus on news, politics, public affairs and issues of social relevance.
Separately, recruitment advertisements shared online by the same page in collaboration with the Vettri News handle suggest that the channel is gearing up for operational launch. The hiring campaign seeks professionals for both satellite television and digital news operations. Open positions include news editor, programme producer, videographer, visual editor and district reporters.
The hiring communication describes Vettri News as an upcoming media platform aligned with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam movement led by Vijay. The channel is expected to cover current affairs, political developments, social issues and public welfare-related topics.
The launch would place TVK among a long list of political movements in Tamil Nadu that have leveraged television networks and media platforms to strengthen communication with supporters and shape public discourse. For TVK, which has been steadily building its organisational footprint since entering electoral politics, the channel could serve as a strategic platform to amplify its messaging and outreach across the state.
Neither TVK nor Vijay has officially announced the channel launch at the time of writing.
