Chennai: Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) is set to launch its Tamil Movies channel around June 2019.
The Upcoming Channel will be launched in Standard Definition and High Definition and it is branded as Zee Thirai and Zee Thirai HD respectively. ZEEL pans to exploit the Tamil Movie Library of its GEC Zee Tamil in addition to dubbed movies from other Indian languages.
ZEEL has been consistently investing in acquisition of movies satellite rights in Tamil Nadu market for the past couple of years and they have built a Library of around 300 to 350 movies that includes the recent blockbusters like ‘Mersal’ and Rajinikanth starrer Sci-fi movie “2.O”.
Tamil audiences are known for their inclination towards Movies and Film based programs on Television and the Movie channel in this market commands considerable volume of viewership. It is evident from the fact that KTV, the movie channel of Sun TV Network reflecting in Top 5 position in the ratings charts.
The test run for Zee Thirai and Zee Thirai HD are expected to begin shortly as the broadcaster has initiated the baby steps towards ramping up its distribution process with various MSOs in Tamil Nadu market.
ZEEL has launched its first Movie channel in South Regional market with Zee Cinemalu, Telugu Movie channel in September 2016.
