Kolkata: In a significant move towards the rollout of News Tariff Regime on 1st February 2019, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) managed to get the stay vacated from the Calcutta High Court today.
The Court has granted the stay on 29th January and TRAI immediately took up the matter before the Calcutta High Court and requested that the stay on the implementation of the new tariff system be vacated arguing that the petitioners had misled the court.
While vacating the stay, the bench has extended a reprieve for Local Cable Operators (LCOs) who have not signed interconnection agreements under the new regime and gave time till 8th February to negotiate with multi-system operators (MSOs) and close the deal.
Posting the matter for hearing on 6th March, the court ruled that the revenue share as per TRAI’s new regime will come into effect after 8th February 2019.
Similar prayers filed by Cable Operators before Madras HC, Pune HC and Delhi HC were turned down by the respective courts. With this TRAI has got all the routes cleared for the role of New Tariff Regime.
