Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Polit Bureau member of the CPI(M), is appointed as the Chief Editor of Deshabhimani newspaper. The appointment came in the wake of incumbent Chief Editor P. Rajeev is set to become a minister in the Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet.
Deshabhimani- owned by Kerala State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is the third-largest Malayalam language newspaper by circulation and holds the third position in terms of readership in Kerala, after Malayala Manorama and Mathrubhumi.
Balakrishnan has served as Home and Tourism minister between 2006 and 2011 and later became the Deputy Opposition Leader in the 13th Kerala Legislative Assembly.
