Tata Sky launches Classic TV, brings back the best of 80’s and 90’s shows
Share Share ShareShare

Mumbai: The classic shows of the ’80s and ’90s have been age agnostic and still hold a strong fan following. To rekindle the same love, Tata Sky today launched Tata Sky Classic TV – a service that promises to transport all Tata Sky subscribers to the golden era of Indian Television. The bouquet offers an entertaining mix of shows that have not only been popular but have set a benchmark in the world of television soaps in India.

The evergreen and critically acclaimed Neena Gupta has been roped in as the face of the service. The campaign will feature her rekindling the good old days with her set of friends reminiscing the magic of gems like Hum Paanch, Saans, Fauji, Banegi Apni baat, and more.

The service will also have an exclusive chat show hosted by the all-time favorite boy next door Vishal Malhotra. Titled ‘Roobaroo with Star’, the segment will feature Vishal engaging in friendly banter with stalwarts like Seema Pahwa, Sudha Chandran, Ashok Saraf, Vandana Pathak, Suchitra Pillai, and others, reminiscing about their days of yore and share never-heard-before anecdotes with the subscribers. The service has been powered by Shemaroo Entertainment; it is ad-free and available for viewing anytime on the Tata Sky mobile app. Tata Sky Classic TV also becomes the first service to curate and offer all classic content together on television.

Introducing the new service, Pallavi Puri, Chief Commercial and Content Officer, Tata Sky, said, “Tata Sky Classic TV brings back the nostalgia of television from the 80s and 90s with handpicked shows and titles from those decades. This service has been curated in partnership with Shemaroo, who are experts in genres across TV shows & movies, and also power Tata Sky Classic Cinema, a popular service that celebrates the richness of vintage Bollywood. Tata Sky has always recognized the appeal of unique and varied content and we believe that Classic TV will bring a whole new facet of entertainment to our viewers and Neena Gupta is the perfect ambassador of this genre and the service.”

Commenting on her association with the service Neena Gupta, the versatile actor added, “Tata Sky has been known to amplify the entertainment quotient for all its subscribers. And this time I will be a part of that excitement. Tata Sky Classic TV will not only bring a bouquet of classic tv shows from the 80’s and 90’s to its viewers but also top it with a relatable brand film that is quirky and fun. I hope the audience loves it as much as I did.’’

“Shemaroo has created a strong association with classics, which have the comfort of familiarity, and this has also been indicated by our research that confirms consumers are missing their favorite TV shows of yesteryears. We’re confident that there’s a strong appeal to this service due to the nostalgia factor. We are excited to partner with Tata Sky Classic TV and bolster our longstanding relationship with the brand.” Hiren Gada – CEO, Shemaroo Entertainment Limited said

The service includes some notable shows like Hum Paanch, Saans, Fauji, Banegi Apni Baat, Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, Movers & Shakers, Karamchand, Hasratein, Hip Hip Hurray, Zamana Badal Gaya, Raja Aur Rancho, Dard, Akbar The Great, Yug, Upanyas and Mahanagar among others.
