Mumbai: Tata Play has expanded its value-added services portfolio with the launch of Tata Play Tamil TV, a dedicated ad-free entertainment service designed to bring back some of Tamil television’s most popular shows for audiences across generations. Featuring a curated line-up from Star Vijay, the service will offer round-the-clock access to family dramas, reality shows and mythological content.
The launch comes as Tamil Nadu continues to remain one of India’s strongest regional entertainment markets, driven by high television penetration and sustained demand for regional General Entertainment content. While audiences continue to seek quality Tamil storytelling, many iconic television shows are no longer readily available. Tata Play Tamil TV aims to address this gap by offering viewers uninterrupted access to classic Tamil programming in an ad-free format.

Speaking about the launch, Pallavi Puri, Chief Commercial and Content Officer, Tata Play, said, “Tamil television has given audiences some of the most memorable stories and characters in Indian entertainment. Over the years, fans have had limited avenues to revisit these beloved shows in one place. With Tata Play Tamil TV, we are offering viewers an ad-free destination to reconnect with iconic content while recreating the joy of shared family viewing. The service reflects our continued focus on curating meaningful and differentiated entertainment experiences for our subscribers.”
The service brings together a broad content mix spanning fiction, non-fiction and mythology. Viewers can revisit popular family dramas such as Raja Rani, Saravanan Meenatchi, Eeramana Rojave, Chinnathambi and Mounaragam, known for their strong audience connect and enduring popularity.
The entertainment offering also includes comedy programming with Kalakka Povathu Yaaru Seasons 5 and 6, while the mythological slate is led by Mahabharatham, one of India’s most celebrated television epics, now available in Tamil to offer viewers a culturally resonant experience in their preferred language.
Commenting on the partnership, a JioStar spokesperson said, “We are thrilled to partner with Tata Play to bring back some our most loved and iconic Tamil shows for audiences. These timeless shows have created deep emotional connections across generations, and their return offers viewers an opportunity to relive cherished memories while introducing these classics to a new generation. This offering provides families a chance to come together and enjoy great storytelling as a shared experience.”
Designed as a family viewing destination, Tata Play Tamil TV seeks to create a shared entertainment experience by catering to varied tastes and age groups under one offering.
Tata Play Tamil TV will be available from 23 June 2026 at INR 2 per day on Service Number #1509.
