Mumbai: This Onam, Asianet is set to make history by unveiling the world’s first-ever Onam Pooppattu (Flower Song), blending cultural nostalgia with cutting-edge innovation. Created in collaboration with renowned composer Justin Varghese and acclaimed artist-singer Remya Nambeesan, the initiative promises to deliver a #ColorOnam unlike any other.
The Pooppattu is a unique composition that transforms the natural sound waves emitted by flowers such as Thumba, Thechi, Chembarathi, and Shankupushpam into soulful music. By doing so, Asianet not only celebrates Onam but also revives the age-old tradition of creating Pookkalam with flowers sourced from one’s own backyard.
Each flower in a Pookkalam traditionally carried deep cultural, spiritual, and seasonal significance. Thumba is revered as sacred, Mukutti symbolizes prosperity and luck, while Thechi represents devotion and strength. With time, much of this heritage has faded. Through Pooppattu, Asianet seeks to bring these meanings back into public memory while evoking the joy of families and friends gathering to collect flowers for the festival.
The video, steeped in tradition and powered by technology, highlights the essence of Onam – togetherness, heritage, and celebration – while reimagining it for modern audiences.
“With Poopaattu, our aim was to show how cultural storytelling can be reimagined through innovation. Onam is a deeply emotional festival for our audiences in Kerala, and by combining tradition with technology, we have created a campaign that not only resonates locally but also demonstrates the brand’s ability to lead with fresh, differentiated ideas. It reflects our commitment to delivering experiences that strengthen consumer connection and brand recall during key cultural moments,” said Krishnan Kutty, Head of Cluster, Entertainment (South), JioStar.
With Pooppattu, Asianet once again proves its ability to fuse tradition and innovation, giving audiences a truly unforgettable way to experience the spirit of Onam.
