Q. What was the gap seen in the market in terms of the scarcity of quality backdrops and studio equipment that led to the formation of StudioBackdrops?
When we started in 2016, creators had very limited options. Most of the backdrops that were available in the market were overpriced and would tear after a single shoot, whereas the reliable equipment was heavily imported and took weeks to get delivered.
Due to that delay professional shoots would have to suffer and in turn, creators would lose both their time and investment.
Here we saw a clear and significant gap for reliable, locally manufactured gear from backdrops to even camera accessories and more, that is fairly priced for Indian creators. We were born out of that need- to provide quality that lasts, consistent supply, and pricing that reflects real value rather than huge imported margins.
Q. What goals has StudioBackdrops set for 2026 and what is the gameplan to get there?
Our primary goal for 2026 is to produce and distribute high quality photo, video and audio gears and backdrops as we have already re-launched Twistflex across India, especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to empower regional creators.
Working on our current network of 200+ photography and camera stores, expanding to tier 2 and tier 3 cities with a strong presence, partnering with the top 50 influencers for authentic promotions and hands- on demonstrations.
This approach will make pro tools accessible everywhere booming India’s creator economy.
Q. How does the relaunch of Twistflex empower content creators?
Twistflex is something that we call India’s first truly portable studio solution. With the relaunch, we introduced 40 new designs – solid cotton, solid polyester, reversible mottled, and mixed textured. We upgraded the material for durability, and reduced the entry price to Rs 2,900 to make it more accessible. The motive was to remove complexity, no heavy rigs, no complicated setup and a professional finish and compact storage for home or on-location shoots.
Creators save time and money, producing pro-level shots to focus purely on content that stands out.
Q. What role does the focus on quality and reliability play in StudioBackdrops standout in a price sensitive market?
When we compare the market and creators , we see that the market usually leans toward the cheap products that merely last a season. This has created an unfortunate mentality where creators are treating photography gear as disposable or seasonal.
But we want to change that and make sure the creators value durability over discounts too. Value for money shouldn’t just mean the cheapest product, rather the best quality at a particular price.
We as a company stand out by focusing on quality , reliability and credibility with creators. In a price sensitive market like this consistent performance creates difference. Our goal is to change this perspective and ensure people understand one valuable purchase that lasts years is better than choosing cheap replicas that break down easily. We all know that poor lighting and flimsy backgrounds ruin a shoot that is why our consumer community sticks with us for a long time.
Q. What role does the right equipment play in separating creators who make it big from those who struggle?
The right equipment is a game changer for sure. Equipment doesn’t replace creativity, it amplifies. Proper lighting eliminates shadows, clean audio overpowers noise, and professional backdrops give the shine, this helps creators to focus on storytelling rather than fixing the bad shots. This focus helps in creating better engagement and credibility. Today the production quality determines whether the content gets swiped or liked.
Q. How is AI being leveraged to enable StudioBackdrops to offer affordable, reliable solutions for photographers, videographers and creators in the industry?
AI helps in the backend to streamline the supply chain, optimize the inventory and also to personalize the e-commerce experience. Also it helps us to predict the trends and optimize the manufacturing for efficiency and even auto generates backdrop designs based on creator preferences which directly helps in lowering down the pricing by 30-40% without compromising on the quality.
And the results are faster delivery cycles and pricing that is competitive and products that are reliable.
We actually use AI in our backend to analyse, study and predict product needs across various cities and product categories. This enables us to always have the right product in stock at the right time.
We are also building a LLM on the back end to provide expert guidance on production equipment and lighting. We believe that this will help creators create easier and faster production and lighting setups to improve their work.
Q. Is there a strong focus on eco-conscious products?
Absolutely, sustainability is core to StudioBackdrops and not just a word. Our reusable fabric solutions already help in reducing waste by approximately 50% over other disposable alternatives. Our paper backdrops are recyclable.
For us sustainability isn’t about branding rather it’s about durability and longevity. We are helping to reduce the e-waste and disposable culture that is common in cheap studio gears and especially backdrops.
Q. What steps is StudioBackdrops taking in helping regional creators tackle the challenges of infrastructure?
Regional creators usually face infrastructure gaps- slower logistics, limited retail access, and lack of hands-on demonstrations. We have worked on shipping capabilities to Tier2 and Tier 3 cities to reduce the waiting time. We have expanded our physical touchpoints and retail outlets in smaller towns and cities so creators can check our products and buy them offline.
We are also providing multiple tutorials in everyday language so that it does not cause any problem for the new creators . Also our portable kits are also helping the creators to shoot even in low-resource environments. We are of the opinion that talent exists everywhere , equipment access should too.
Q. What marketing activities will StudioBackdrops be doing like participating in retail events, organising seminars, workshops?
As our B2B segment expands , so is our marketing strategy, we are making it more community driven and experimental. We are actively participating in major trade and retail events, regional fairs and anywhere where creators can get hands -on experience with our gear.
Just the hands on experience can alone build more trust than digital ads. We don’t go for ads only, rather we focus on engaging with the creator community .
As a content production and content forward company, Studiobackdrops is always about showcasing the product and its results. This year we are working on releasing tutorials and we aim to cover our entire inventory of about 6000+ SKUs. As digital marketing changes with the propagation of AI, our goal is to keep our marketing and communication as human as possible.
We are constantly working on founder led marketing and we hope to introduce the rest of our team to our audience. We are also working with creators at all levels, major influencers to micro and nano influencers. Apart from that our B2B segment is all about offline activities, including workshops, regional fairs exhibitions and more.
Q. The microdrama format is competing with short form videos in terms of consumption. Do you see creators experimenting in this space?
Definitely. Microdramas are getting momentum because they are combining storytelling depth with the speed of short form content too. Creators are also experimenting with the episodic hooks creating binge-worthiness.
I see creators experimenting, mixing formats with our backdrops and lighting gears for more enhanced content creation.
