Chennai: The Indian advertising industry is mourning the loss of Venugopal Menen, a respected brand strategist and veteran ad professional, who passed away on May 1, 2026. He is survived by his family, friends, and a wide network of colleagues and mentees across the industry.
Menen, fondly referred to as “Venu Sir” by peers and protégés, was widely regarded as one of the sharpest strategic minds in Indian advertising, known for his clarity of thought, understated leadership, and deep commitment to craft.
He held leadership roles at some of the industry’s prominent agencies, including heading the Chennai operations of Mudra Communications, where he played a key role in strengthening the agency’s regional footprint during a formative phase for the market. He later moved on to lead Quadrant Advertising in Pune, where he was instrumental in building strong client relationships and driving strategic direction.
In his entrepreneurial phase, Menen founded Iced Pepper Creative Designz in Chennai, reflecting his independent spirit and belief in building ideas-driven, client-focused creative solutions outside the framework of large networks.
Colleagues remember him as a creative, unconventional thinker who lived life entirely on his own terms, balancing strategic rigour with a deep appreciation for original thinking. Beyond his professional achievements, he was known as a mentor and a friend to many in the industry.
“Brand strategist, veteran ad man, and a dear friend to all,” is how several industry voices described him, underscoring the personal and professional impact he had over the years.
His funeral is scheduled to take place at 3:00 PM on May 2, 2026, in Chennai.
Menen’s passing marks the loss of a quiet yet influential force in Indian advertising, whose legacy will continue through the many professionals he guided and the thinking he shaped.
