Mumbai: Netflix has launched the Netflix NextGen India Writers’ Program, a talent development initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing the next generation of creative writers in India. The programme seeks to provide aspiring storytellers with the opportunity to develop original ideas into professionally crafted series concepts for the streaming platform.
The initiative marks the first time Netflix is bringing its global writers’ development programme to India, making the country only the third market, after France and the Netherlands, to host the initiative. The programme reflects Netflix’s continued investment in discovering fresh creative voices as Indian stories gain increasing global recognition.
Over the years, Netflix has backed emerging talent through projects such as The Railway Men, directed by Shiv Rawail, and The Ba**ds of Bollywood by Aryan Khan. The company is also supporting new creative voices behind its upcoming project Operation Safed Sagar, created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar, Kushal Srivastava, Oni Sen and Mehboob Pal Singh Brar.
The two-month hybrid programme is open to writers with up to three years of professional writing experience. Selected participants will receive mentorship, workshops and practical guidance from industry experts, helping them transform original concepts into professionally developed series bibles while gaining insights into the end-to-end process of creating a scripted series.
Applications for the programme are open from July 1 to September 1, 2026.

Speaking about the initiative, Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, said, “Every great story begins with a writer. In a country as creatively rich and diverse as India, we know there are countless people with extraordinary stories to tell who simply haven’t had the opportunity yet. The Netflix NextGen India Writers’ Program is our way of discovering those voices early, investing in their potential, and giving them the space to develop their craft and bring their stories to life. We believe the next chapter of Indian entertainment will be shaped by bold new storytellers with fresh perspectives and distinctive voices. Because the next great Indian story could come from anywhere, and we can’t wait to discover it.”
With the launch of the NextGen India Writers’ Program, Netflix aims to strengthen India’s creative ecosystem by offering aspiring writers a structured pathway to develop their storytelling capabilities while creating opportunities for new voices to contribute to the future of Indian entertainment.
