Mumbai: Veteran real estate leader Sanjay Dutt has stepped down as Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Tata Realty & Infrastructure Ltd. (TRIL) and Tata Housing, bringing to a close an eight-year tenure during which the Tata Group’s real estate business significantly expanded its development footprint and executed several landmark transactions.
Dutt’s departure marks the end of a leadership phase that saw TRIL strengthen its presence across multiple real estate segments, including residential, commercial, infrastructure and hospitality.
During his tenure, the company expanded its operations across 17 cities and delivered more than 25 projects. Under his leadership, TRIL also attracted significant institutional capital and recently completed the landmark acquisition of Hinduja Land in Bengaluru, one of the notable transactions in India’s real estate sector.
Widely regarded as one of India’s most accomplished real estate professionals, Dutt brings over three decades of experience across property consulting, investment management and real estate development. Throughout his career, he has been associated with some of the industry’s most significant and complex transactions, earning recognition for his ability to combine long-term strategic vision with disciplined execution.
Before joining Tata Realty & Infrastructure, Dutt served as Chief Executive Officer of India Operations & Private Funds at CapitaLand India, where he led the company’s real estate, infrastructure and private equity investment businesses.
His career also includes senior leadership roles at three of the world’s largest real estate advisory firms—JLL India, Cushman & Wakefield and CBRE India.
At Cushman & Wakefield, Dutt played a pivotal role in establishing new business verticals while mentoring leadership teams to drive business turnaround, growth and profitability. He also led the successful merger and integration of DTZ with Cushman & Wakefield following the global acquisition.
Earlier, during his tenure with JLL India, he served as CEO – Business, while at CBRE India he was instrumental in establishing and expanding the company’s operations in Mumbai and Pune during its formative years in the country.
Beyond corporate leadership, Dutt has been an active contributor to the broader real estate ecosystem through his association with several industry bodies. He has held leadership and advisory roles with organizations including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Asia Pacific Real Assets Association (APREA), National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) and the Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry, contributing to policy discussions and the professionalisation of India’s real estate sector.
