Mumbai: In an enforcement action against digital piracy, Andhra Pradesh Police have registered an FIR following a complaint by JioStar concerning the unauthorized distribution of its copyrighted television channels and digital content through an illegal IPTV application operating in Guntur district.
Pursuant to the complaint and evidence submitted by JioStar, FIR dated 20 July 2026 was registered at Phirangipuram Police Station, Guntur, under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Copyright Act, 1957. The action resulted in the arrest of an individual allegedly involved in the operation, with further investigation currently underway.
Following the registration of the FIR, police officials conducted a search of premises linked to the operation and seized a mobile phone containing electronic evidence allegedly connected with the unauthorized distribution of the “Star Share” IPTV application, which is stated to have been circulated through messaging platforms to local cable operators.
According to the FIR, the accused is alleged to have commercially distributed subscriptions to the infringing IPTV application and facilitating the unauthorized streaming and monetisation of JioStar’s copyrighted television content. The investigation further indicates that the application was circulated through a closed distribution network, with the police continuing to examine the involvement of additional individuals connected to the operation.
The infringing application is understood to have ceased operate in the concerned area based on post-enforcement verification. The investigation remains ongoing, with police continuing to pursue additional leads emerging from the evidence gathered during the course of the investigation.
The development the reflects continued coordination between rights holders and law enforcement agencies to address organized IPTV piracy networks and curb the unauthorised distribution of premium television and digital content.
