New Delhi: India has long been a battleground for high-profile advertising wars, and now the competition has reached the media industry, where two leading Hindi news channels, Aaj Tak and News18 India, are engaged in an intense ratings battle.

Both channels are battling it out with aggressive campaigns that reflect their distinct strategies. Aaj Tak has drawn inspiration from Pushpa 2, emphasizing resilience with taglines like “Kitne Bhi Landing Page Kyun Na Ho… Jhukega Nahi!” (No matter how many landing pages there are, we won’t back down!). The campaign positions Aaj Tak as a champion of organic viewership and audience choice. Meanwhile, News18 India has adopted a broader Bollywood approach, using references from iconic films like Anand, Kaalia, and Sholay to reinforce its narrative of leadership and dominance in the industry.

At the heart of this battle is the landing page strategy, where channels automatically appear as the default option when viewers switch on their TVs. While News18 India defends it as a legitimate marketing exercise, Aaj Tak has used its campaign to challenge this practice, sparking a wider industry debate on whether such technical placements offer real audience engagement or merely inflate numbers artificially. Advertisers, who rely on genuine reach, are closely watching this development.

Both channels have taken a Bollywood-inspired approach in their marketing war. Aaj Tak stuck to its core messaging from Pushpa, reinforcing its stand on resilience and credibility, while News18 India leveraged multiple Bollywood references to assert its dominance. With dialogues from Anand, Kaalia, and Sholay, News18 aimed to portray long-term leadership and a powerful presence.

The war for ratings leadership between Hindi news channels has been ongoing for years, with both networks vying for dominance. As the battle rages on, the debate over landing pages and genuine audience engagement has resurfaced, while Advertisers and marketers are betting their spends on a combination of reach, trust, and innovative brand solutions offered by these media platforms.
