Amazon Now turns quick commerce surcharges into satirical museum in new campaign by Social Panga

Mumbai: Amazon Now has partnered with independent creative agency Social Panga to launch a new campaign that uses satire to highlight extra charges commonly associated with quick commerce platforms, transforming them into a public museum installation titled ‘The Museum of Unnecessary Charges.’

The campaign reimagines familiar surcharges such as handling charges, rain fees, convenience fees, surge pricing and small cart fees as oversized museum exhibits, positioning them as relics that shoppers would rather leave behind. Open to the public for two days, the installation invited visitors to experience these charges through immersive exhibits designed to spark conversations around online grocery shopping.

Each installation interpreted a specific fee in an unconventional way. A giant hand clutching a shopping bag represented handling charges, while a transparent umbrella symbolised rain fees. Other exhibits showcased convenience fees, surge pricing and small cart fees as artefacts from a bygone era.

Complementing the physical installation is a digital film featuring comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath, who walks through the museum offering understated observations on the logic behind these once-common charges, reinforcing the campaign’s satirical narrative.

Commenting on the campaign, Gaurav Arora, Co-Founder, Social Panga, said, “The strongest ideas begin with a human truth but flourish because of execution. Functional propositions are often the hardest to make memorable, so our approach is to find a cultural expression of the truth we’re trying to tell. ‘The Museum of Unnecessary Charges’ came from asking a simple question: if these charges were becoming a thing of the past, where would they then actually belong? The answer gave us a platform that could live as an experience, a film and a social conversation, while staying rooted in the brand’s core proposition.”

Reflecting on the creative approach behind the campaign, Soumabha Nandi, Executive Vice President, Creative and Strategy, Social Panga, said, “It’s been a while since advertising embraced satire. Somewhere along the way, we became more interested in making claims than making people pause. Satire works because it doesn’t point fingers, it simply holds up a mirror. You laugh because it’s familiar, and only a moment later realise the joke is on all of us. That felt like the right way to tell a consumer truth people had quietly normalised over the years. Once that insight was clear, the museum became inevitable. It couldn’t exist as a visual metaphor; it had to be a real place that people could walk into, experience and question for themselves. Sometimes, the most honest expression of an idea is simply to build it for real.”

Through ‘The Museum of Unnecessary Charges,’ Amazon Now and Social Panga seek to convert a common consumer pain point into an engaging brand experience, using humour and cultural storytelling to encourage shoppers to rethink the extra fees that have become a familiar part of the quick commerce landscape
