Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the resumption of the TATA IPL 2025 season, with matches scheduled to restart from May 17 following a brief suspension. The first match post-resumption will be a high-voltage clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), set to take place in Bengaluru.
The IPL was abruptly halted on May 8 after the scheduled fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was called off due to security concerns arising from an attempted incursion into Indian airspace near Chandigarh, which resulted in a stadium-wide blackout.
In a formal statement, the BCCI said, “BCCI is pleased to announce the resumption of the TATA IPL 2025. After extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and with all the key stakeholders, the Board has decided to proceed with the remainder of the season.”
According to the revised schedule, the league matches will be held across six key venues: Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai. The playoff venues will be disclosed in due course.
A total of 17 matches are scheduled to be played in the new phase of the tournament, including two double-headers on Sundays. The much-anticipated IPL 2025 Final is slated for June 3.
The BCCI’s swift action in coordinating with central and local authorities has enabled the league to get back on track, ensuring minimal disruption to stakeholders, franchises, broadcasters, and fans alike. The decision comes as a reassurance to sponsors, advertisers, and partners who were closely monitoring developments following the suspension.
The IPL, one of the world’s most valuable sports properties, continues to be a significant contributor to India’s sports economy, with viewership and engagement reaching record highs each season. All eyes are now on the resumption to see how the teams respond post-break and how the league maintains momentum toward its climactic final.
