Kochi: Kerala-based media group Mathrubhumi has announced a series of strategic leadership appointments across its digital, human resources and technology verticals as part of its efforts to strengthen organisational capabilities and accelerate innovation across the business.
The appointments span Mathrubhumi.com’s Malayalam and English operations, HR for Television, Radio and Digital (TRD), and technology leadership, reinforcing the company’s focus on digital growth, operational excellence and future-ready media capabilities.
The media group has brought in experienced professionals with backgrounds across leading media organisations and allied industries to drive innovation, strengthen digital initiatives and enhance organisational and technology infrastructure.
Mathrubhumi has appointed Aby Thakaran as Deputy Editor, Mathrubhumi.com (Malayalam).
With more than two decades of experience across print, television and digital media, Aby has held leadership roles including Digital Editor at 24 News and Asianet News, where he contributed to digital newsroom growth and audience expansion.
His career also includes building editorial teams and launching print publications in Bhutan, along with serving as a Reuters correspondent. Earlier, he worked with The Daily Tribune in Bahrain.
The company has also appointed Vipin Vijayan as Deputy Editor, Mathrubhumi.com (English).
Bringing over 22 years of experience in digital and television journalism, Vipin began his career with internships at The Indian Express and All India Radio before joining United News of India (UNI). He later worked at Rediff.com, Republic TV and most recently led the English digital vertical at Asianet News.
At Mathrubhumi, Vipin will focus on building strong and credible digital news products across platforms and formats.
To strengthen its people strategy, Mathrubhumi has appointed Gayatri Gopakumar as Head – Human Resources (TRD – Television, Radio & Digital).
Gayatri brings extensive HR leadership experience across media and broadcasting organisations including Mathrubhumi, Asianet News and Malayala Manorama, along with experience in the IT sector.
Her expertise spans talent acquisition, employee engagement, learning and development, organisational development, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), and HR strategy.
In her new role, she will lead HR across Television, Radio and Digital businesses, aligning talent strategy and supporting growth through a technology-enabled people framework.
Mathrubhumi has also appointed Karthikeyan K as Lead – Technology & Innovation.
Karthikeyan brings over 18 years of experience in technology and product leadership, including more than a decade in senior roles focused on building scalable digital platforms and engineering teams.
Prior to joining Mathrubhumi, he served as Head of Technology at THG Publishing Pvt. Ltd. (The Hindu Group). His experience spans media, EdTech, e-commerce, content management systems and platform engineering.
He brings expertise across AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Python, PHP, ReactJS, AI agents and automation, and has led digital product initiatives including large-scale consumer news platforms.
At Mathrubhumi, he will oversee the company’s digital technology vision and architecture with a focus on content creation, distribution and monetisation.
