Mumbai: Bigg Boss is set to make its debut in Bengali with Bigg Boss Bangla, premiering on 30 August exclusively on Star Jalsha and JioHotstar. Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly will host the Bengali edition of the popular reality entertainment franchise.
Produced and owned by Banijay Asia & EndemolShine India, Bigg Boss Bangla will bring the franchise’s established format of evolving relationships, strategic gameplay, emotional conflicts and unpredictable twists to Bengali audiences, with a narrative rooted in the region’s culture and spirit.
The season is anchored on the proposition ‘Durgo Joy Shohoj Noy’, which translates to the idea that conquering the fort is never easy. The show will put contestants through an environment where alliances can shift, decisions can have consequences and relationships can change the course of the game.
Speaking about stepping into the Bigg Boss Bangla house as its host, Sourav Ganguly said, “The biggest battles are never just about winning; they’re about how you respond when the pressure keeps changing around you. That’s exactly what makes Bigg Boss such a fascinating format. Every day brings new situations, new equations and new decisions, where staying calm and thinking ahead become just as important as speaking your mind. ‘Durgo Joy Shohoj Noy’ reflects that journey perfectly. Nothing inside this house comes easy, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the contestants navigate the game while taking viewers across Bengal on every twist and turn.”
Sumanta Bose, Head, Entertainment Business, Hindi and Regional (East & West), JioStar, said, “Bigg Boss has consistently demonstrated the power of reality entertainment to spark conversations and build deep audience engagement across markets. With Bigg Boss Bangla, we are bringing one of the country’s most iconic entertainment formats to Bengal through a distinctly local lens one that reflects the region’s culture, emotions and spirit. With Sourav Ganguly leading the show and the season anchored in the thought ‘Durgo Joy Shohoj Noy’, audiences can expect a game where resilience, strategy and adaptability matter just as much as personality.”
The proposition ‘Durgo Joy Shohoj Noy’ is expected to drive the season’s narrative, with contestants navigating shifting alliances, rivalries and changing dynamics. The format will also introduce new challenges and twists, ensuring that contestants remain on their toes throughout the competition.
The show’s inaugural season has also secured a lineup of sponsors, signalling advertiser interest ahead of its premiere. Asian Paints has come on board as the Co-Title Sponsor, while Everyuth Naturals and Britannia Marie Gold are the Co-Presenting Sponsors. Fortune Refined Soyabean Oil and Comfort are the Co-Powered By Sponsors, while Oshea Herbals and Dazzler Eterna join as Special Partners. Godrej Consumer Products is the Associate Partner.
With its Bengali adaptation, the Bigg Boss franchise is looking to combine its established reality television format with regional storytelling, while Ganguly’s presence as host adds a familiar personality to the show’s debut in the market.
