Hamilton: Family-owned spirits company Bacardi has appointed Mahesh Kanchan as Managing Director for India and Southeast Asia, effective October 1, as part of a leadership transition aimed at driving the company’s next phase of growth in one of its key markets.
Kanchan succeeds Vinay Golikeri, who has been promoted to Regional President for Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) and Global Travel Retail (GTR). Golikeri takes on the expanded role after leading Bacardi’s India and Southeast Asia business for more than three years and serving the company for over two decades.
“It’s been a privilege to lead the India business and I’m proud of the momentum we’ve built and the strength of the team,” says Vinay Golikeri. “India remains a critical market for Bacardi, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with Mahesh to build on this progress as part of my wider AMEA role.”
Currently serving as Managing Director for Southeast Asia, Kanchan brings more than 30 years of experience across the alcoholic beverages and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors. During his tenure in Southeast Asia, he played a key role in strengthening the business and laying the foundation for future growth. In his new position, he will assume day-to-day leadership of the India and Southeast Asia business, overseeing the company’s growth strategy in a market that remains central to Bacardi’s long-term plans.
“I’m excited to take on this role at a time of significant opportunity for Bacardi in India,” says Mahesh Kanchan. “We have a strong team, clear momentum and a business well positioned for its next phase of growth.”
Bacardi said India continues to be one of its most important growth markets, supported by sustained investments, a long-standing presence in the country and strong business momentum. The company also highlighted India’s role as a key source of global leadership talent, noting that several senior executives, including Bacardi Limited Chief Executive Officer Mahesh Madhavan, have emerged from its India operations.
