Cochin : The Vanitha Film Awards are presented annually by Vanitha, a womens magazine from the Malayala Manorama group in Kerala. The awards ceremony has been instituted every year to honour both artistic and technical excellence in the Malayalam film industry.
The award ceremony held and broadcasted annually since 1998 has gained popularity over the years and is currently one of the most respected and valuable award ceremonies in Kerala.
The Star-studded evening held at the Bristow Ground on Wellingdon Island on Sunday 15th February 2015 will be aired on Mazhavil Manorama on 28th and 29th March 2015 from 7PM to 10 PM.
Mammootty and Manju Warrier were adjudged as the best actor and best actress respectively
Veteran director I.V. Sasi was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the ceremony.
While Mammootty bagged the award for his performance in ‘Varsham’, Manju’s re-entry character Nirupama in ‘How old are you?’ brought her the recognition.
Biju Menon will be presented a special award for his performance in ‘Vellimoonga’.
Nivin Pauly-starrer ‘1983’, directed by Abrid Shine has been selected the best movie.
Anjaly Menon won the award for the best director for her ‘Bangalore Days’, which is also the best popular film.
Nivin Pauly and Nazriya Nazim have been selected as the best popular actor and actress respectively.
Artistes from Malayalam, Tamil and Bollywood industries performed at the event. Glam girl Mallika Sherawat’s dance item is one of the prime attractions of the starry event.
Popular playback singer Shankar Mahadevan joined by his son Siddhartha Mahadevan on stage. Haricharan and Vineeth Sreenivasan were also there to enthral the audience with a string of songs.
Malayalam actresses including Kavya Madhavan, Swetha Menon and Aparna Gopinath presented dance performances as part of the award night.
The awards, determined by people’s choice through voting options issued through Vanitha weekly magazine and Malayala Manorama daily.
The award night is differentiated by its unique programmes and excellent organisation as well as the state-of-the-art technical aids and enhancements.
