New Delhi : Prasar Bharati has appointed the first batch of 55 persons to fill key positions in the public broadcasting networks All India Radio and Doordarshan, as part of the ongoing revamp process under the initiative of the new NDA government lead by PM Modi.
DD and AIR were marred with plenty of mistakes at various level, virtually rendering it unfit to compete with the Private Broadcasters. The appointments were expected to improve the situation as Prasar Bharati is recruiting people in such large chunk after few decades.
“Prasar Bharati appoints 1st batch of 55 persons after 21 years! Took 3 years to win: 2000 PLUS units to man:17,000 posts vacant,” said Prasar Bharati chairperson Jawhar Sircar in a tweet today.
Sources said that the Public Broadcaster has been facing a manpower crunch but since there has been delay in the setting up of the Prasar Bharati Recruitment Board (PBRB), the selections were done by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
Officials said that among those recruited in the first batch are programme executives, transmission executives, engineering assistant and technicians etc who are vital to the functioning of the public broadcaster.
It may be noted that Doordarshan and AIR was once flooded with over staffing due to favorism at various Kendra levels and the situation became vise versa once the corporation ran in to financial woes due to falling viewership and revenue in the new age satellite channels era.
