Chennai : The BARC ratings for the week 35 of the Tamil GEC market has witnessed a rearrangement in the ranking of the Tamil GEC. The Tamil general entertainment channel of Star India, Vijay TV with 503598 (000s impressions)has regained its position and has emerged as the runner up in the Tamil GEC market. Zee Tamil has settled in the 3rd place with 472159 (000s impressions).
It was Zee Tamil that occupied the No.2 position in week 33 with 499927 (000s impressions) and in week 34 with 464368 (000s impressions) pushing Vijay TV to the 3rd place with 483866 (000s impressions) in week 33 and 448687 (000s impressions) in week 34.
In week 35 Vijay TV has bounced back to its runner up position, the major reason for increase in the rating of the channel is the traction of the recent episodes of the popular reality show Bigg Boss Season 2 hosted by actor Kamal Haasan. The episodes of the show are seen intensified as it is marching towards the grand finale, the heated up conversations and tasks that are being assigned to the contestants have triggered controversial arguments amongst them and this has contributed to improved ratings of the channel. The ratings of the reality show has increased from 4.9 average TVR to 5.3 average TVR this week.
The fiction shows have also paved way for the channels’ gain in GRP the afternoon special episodes of fictions shows Ponmagal Vanthal and Avalum Naanum the special episode telecast of both these fictions have garnered an average weekly 4.8 TVR against an average TVR of 3.2 the previous week in Urban 15+ category.
Sun TV continues its leadership position garnering 938999 (000s impressions) while the Tamil movie and comedy channels KTV and Adhitya TV of the same network occupy the 4th and 5th places with 289214 (000s impressions) and 87823 (000s impressions) respectively.
The Tamil GEC market is witnessing a stiff competition between Zee Tamil and Vijay TV and both the channels are seen competing equally with a constant effort to strengthen their programming line up with fiction and non – fiction shows.
