New Delhi: As India was grappling with a sudden surge in Covid cases, Swiggy Genie, Swiggy’s pick up and drop service worked with over 500 Covid warriors to facilitate the delivery of free meals for those impacted by Covid-19. The Covid warriors were assisted with daily deliveries of home-cooked meals and essential packages at a delivery cost of INR 1/-. For two months, Swiggy Genie delivered over 40,000 meals & essential packages across major cities impacted by Covid-19 such as Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Jaipur.
Covid warriors who supplied over 100-200 daily meals through Swiggy Genie included Sathya Sai Trust, Hyatt Regency Delhi, Abhyutthanam Society, Massive Restaurants, Vogue Kitchens along with many home cooks and ‘seva’ kitchens who came forward to support those in need.
Rashmi Chandra of Extra Portions, Gurgaon said, “During the second wave of the pandemic, we increased our volunteer base to almost 50 and have helped over 80 families impacted by Covid with 4000-5000 free meals. Recognizing the need of the hour, Swiggy Genie’s partnership and support extended to us with meals delivery enabled us to help the affected patients at a time of such a health crisis in the city.”
Similarly, Vogue Kitchens from Chennai was able to deliver over 10,000 healthy meals to Covid-19 affected patients without having to worry about the delivery charges and last mile logistics.
Chirag Sarin, Head Operation Services at Massive Restaurants said, “When the entire country was suffering, many volunteered to help communities in whichever way they could. At Massive Restaurants, we provided medical assistance and specially curated healthy meals for those impacted. With support from Swiggy Genie who facilitated deliveries at a mere cost of INR 1/-, we are grateful that we could extend our assistance to those in need.”
During the second wave of Covid-19, almost half a million home cooked meals and tiffins have been ferried to friends and family. Given how Swiggy Genie has served consumers as an essential service, earlier in June, Swiggy had announced the prioritization of Swiggy Genie orders with a dedicated customer care support for faster resolution. Users who need to send or pick up anything from the safety of their home can access Genie services via the main Swiggy app.
