Mumbai: Tata Projects Limited has appointed Sukumar Hebbar as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. He succeeds Vinayak Pai, who has led the technology-led engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company since 2022.
The appointment strengthens Tata Projects’ leadership team as the company looks to expand its presence across urban infrastructure, data centres and industrial EPC businesses.
Hebbar joins Tata Projects with over three and a half decades of experience in the infrastructure and construction sector, having spent his career at L&T. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President and IC Head of the Transportation Infrastructure business, where he led the Roads, Bridges & Formation and Railways portfolios.
During his tenure at L&T, Hebbar played a key role in building the company’s Health Business unit into a profitable vertical while also securing data centre projects. He has overseen the execution of several landmark infrastructure projects, including the Ram Mandir, Navi Mumbai International Airport and Kartavya Bhawan.
Commenting on his appointment, Sukumar Hebbar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tata Projects, said, “Tata Projects has built a formidable reputation as India’s technology led infrastructure builder. I am excited to join the team at a time when the sector is central to India’s growth story, and to work with our people to deliver projects that are safer, faster and more sustainable. My priority is the execution of complex infrastructure projects while expanding our capabilities in data centres and sustainable energy — areas where I see significant headroom for Tata Projects to lead.”
An architect by qualification, Hebbar holds a degree in Architecture from Mysore University and is an alumnus of INSEAD’s Advanced Management Programme in Organisational Leadership. He began his professional journey in 1990 as a Graduate Engineer Trainee and went on to lead several strategic business units during his career.
With Hebbar at the helm, Tata Projects is expected to strengthen its focus on executing large-scale infrastructure projects while expanding its capabilities in high-growth sectors such as data centres, sustainable energy and urban infrastructure.
