New Delhi: Ad industry veteran Vivek Das has stepped down from his role as Managing Partner at EssenceMediacom, marking the end of a short but high-impact tenure at the GroupM agency. He had joined the firm in June 2024 to lead the Media Futures Group (MFG), overseeing Google-centric media operations across India and Southeast Asia.
His departure comes at a time of significant restructuring at the parent company WPP, which recently rebranded GroupM as WPP Media. Just days ago, the newly minted WPP Media underwent a major organizational overhaul. This follows the earlier announcement that CEO Mark Read would step down at the end of the year. Both Das and WPP Media declined to comment on the development.
Das’s exit is the latest in a series of leadership changes within the WPP ecosystem, which is navigating a transformative period across its global operations.
Before joining EssenceMediacom, Das was the CEO of Zoo Media and FoxyMoron, where he guided the independent digital network through a critical phase of restructuring and growth. He exited Zoo Media in February 2024 after nearly a year in the position, following which he took a short professional hiatus before moving to GroupM.
Widely regarded as a thought leader in digital transformation and data-driven media planning, Das is best known for his 13-year stint at Mindshare. He rose through the ranks to become Vice President and Head of Consulting, Data, Analytics, and Technology—driving strategy for major clients including Airtel, PepsiCo, Nokia, Ford, and Hindustan Unilever.
Over his two-decade-long career, Das has held leadership roles at several marquee organizations including Wunderman, Omnicom Media Group, ISHIR Digital, and Webchutney. His successor at EssenceMediacom has not yet been announced.
