Transforming the Humanity while Protecting the Planet is the motto of the foundation Kunal Sood - Founder, We The Planet
Share Share ShareShare

We The Planet is championed by global leaders and icons for the planet who challenge all of us to reimagine a better approach to the planet, people, peace, prosperity, and partnership to protect all life on the planet and safeguard cities and nations from the negative effects of climate change.

On the 21st of September 2019, Kunal Sood launched #WeThePlanet at the United Nations Headquarters during UNGA Week. #WeThePlanetwas created to unite global leaders to reimagine our approach to the planet, people, peace, prosperity, and partnership, uniting the youth and the elders in action to make the impossible possible from COVID-19 to Climate Change in order to protect all life on land and under the sea.

In an exclusive chat Kunal Sood (Founder, We The Planet), explains that the foundation of the #WeThePlanet concept is to create an exponential global movement through the #WeThePlanet campaign where, “We as humans must go beyond ‘We The People,’ and focus on something that is larger than ourselves; as a collective, we must be focused on ‘We The Planet’.” Transforming Humanity while Protecting the Planet is the motto of the foundation.

Idea behind the brand ‘We The Planet’?

#WeThePlanet was inaugurated and officially launched on 21st September 2019 as a high-level in-person convening at the United Nations during the 74th UNGA with the President of the UN General Assembly María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés and H.E. Thomas Remengesau Jr., President of Palau. It was launched to transform our world for a better future during the Climate Action Summit. At #WeThePlanet, we are on a mission to make the impossible possible by uniting the youth and the elders, the left and the right, and the abled and disabled to positively impact a billion lives over the next decade. The co-founders, Kunal Sood and Laura Muranaka are actively creating a virtual platform, curating a purpose-driven community, and building a real-life #WeThePlanet Campus to safeguard and protect all life on land and under the sea.

Foundation and principles of ‘Social Impact Strategy’ and its importance

#WeThePlanet has been successful in launching various summits in the past. With the help of world leaders, artists, explorers, artists, and many other renowned personalities, we have been able to create a dialogue around the future of social impact in the world. There was #WeHaveADream that focused on ending all forms of social, racial, gender, and environmental violence and injustice on the planet; Father’s Day summit that brought together extraordinary leaders and initiated conversations around leaving an exponential legacy of prosperity for the next generation; then there was Mother’s Day summit to reimagine our approach to the planet, people, peace, prosperity, and partnership. We also had our flagship X Impact summit where we united all generations of leaders from around the world to talk about the most pressing challenges of the day and we announced our new venture We The Future (WTF).

Rightly so, social impact strategy is in the very DNA of our organization. Our purpose is well defined and so is our mission, making the impossible possible by positively impacting a billion lives over the next decade.

Saving the world with #WeThePlanet

Given the democratization of information, ideas, and technology in developing countries, it has caused kind of a perfect storm for humanity to come together and make the impossible possible. #WeThePlanet recognizes that, amidst this global change, there is a new force for good of young entrepreneurs working to create impact-driven business models and strategic frameworks by focusing on consumer consciousness as opposed to just profit-driven conventional businesses. Even the United Nations has recognized the next decade as the decade of action and once where the youth will matter the most in order to achieve the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Innovation & technology impacting society

This global pandemic has claimed millions of lives and has had a profound impact on those who survived. Many businesses have also shut down due to nationwide lockdown or to follow social distancing norms. However, the need to survive this pandemic has helped social innovators take time to use the technology and create something valuable. New challenges demand new outlooks and new solutions. Startups must take this time off to re-evaluate their activities and be responsible. The process will not only help them free some of their resources but will also help them re-navigate those resources to transform their journey.

Combining social innovation and technology is about challenging the status quo. The coronavirus crisis may have brought the financial crisis to several businesses, but it has also re-ignited the engine of great innovation. With the help of technology in the social sector, businesses can improve growth, aid new markets, bring innovation in their products and services, create lasting customer relationships, and retain talent.

Lessons learned from the pandemic year 2020

There is an intimate connection between the current global pandemic and the lost harmony between humanity and nature. Integral ecology architecture is one way to demonstrate how human systems can reorient to address human and planetary longevity, social inequities, and increase health and wellness to flourish into the future. COVID-19 highlighted the challenges faced in both the in-person summit industry and the architectural industry surrounding the future of working environments. In the future, #WeThePlanet will raise funds in attempts to investigate new and forward-looking opportunities for people-friendly architecture in harmony with nature. With our initiatives, we want to become a definitive platform to educate and communicate how we as humanity can protect all life on land and under the sea.

Changed the Health perspective both in India and Globally

The crisis has put global health at the forefront. It has created an unparalleled disruption in the global health community and demands the fields of science, psychology, innovation and technology to come together and create a better future for us. While we can already see how organizations are fighting for the vaccine, health workers working restlessly, delivering social services and protecting lives; the long-term consequences of the pandemic such as how it will reshape the health and development institutions, occupations, and priorities is still difficult to imagine.

Future and vision of WeThePlanet

We plan to educate and communicate humanity while advancing to the frontiers of sustainable design. Our floating building campus, for instance, is an inspiring example for the future convening, preservation of energy and of life, innovative living and working environments, and will be addressing topics such as longevity, climate change, social justice, and equal opportunities. The 50/50 concept foresees architecture for the future centered on shared spaces that increase wildlife habitat in urban environments while harnessing the power of solar and other renewable energy sources. This is one of many advancements that we have planned for the immediate future.

Expansion plans

Benefits of technology for future generations

The transformative capability of technology is known to mankind, even while the exact arrangement and extent of these changes remain a mystery. Patterns towards more significant levels of automation guarantee speedy and accurate production in the future. The world has already witnessed an introduction to 5 key technologies (internet of things, artificial intelligence, robotics technology, wearables, and 3D printing) that have the ability to change what, where and how items are designed, produced, accumulated, supplied, utilized, disposed of and even recycled. These technologies influence and reshape all the steps involved in the creation process. However, we haven’t yet made the most of these technologies and so the future of technology is all about unfolding its maximum capacity and contribution towards global production.
