#AirIndia

Air India unveiled its new identity this week and it was the talk of town. Good, bad and ugly, all sorts of commentary clogged timelines and continue to. Such is the love for the airline which Indians have a sense of ownership of, even if it’s not their airline of choice! The ever articulate Harish Bijoor put it succinctly when he said, “When you love the old as much, you will hate the new as much! In the beginning! And for a while! But even that shall pass & things will settle down! A brand identity change is tough! And this is a big one!”

This was indeed a big one and it brought with it mixed reactions. Understandably, the vicious comments travel further. I will reserve my comments for a column in The Free Press Journal’s BrandSutra and Medianews4u that will appear Monday.

#Jailer

Tamilians (and other Rajinikanth fans) across the world are in a celebratory mood this weekend. The world needs causes and excuses for celebration. For suspending disbelief and forgetting the many worries of life, even if momentarily, and getting engrossed in entertainment. Stars like Rajinikanth have provided that in ample measure for generations. Scenes from screens in the US and France have to be seen to be believed. Every star has his or her charm. Some have a charm that is infectious, timeless and universal. Rajinikanth’s Jailer has raked up a storm.

Think this is India? Think again. This is the craze for #JAILER and the ⭐️ in France. pic.twitter.com/i3ZeCRJ6KF

#IndependenceDay

The special day is around the corner, separated from the weekend by a wanton working Monday. Patriotism will be stoked, brands will ride the wave, as will politicians. What’s happening all around will be a fascinating watch. And what happens within is an unbelievable feeling. Meantime, volunteer-driven organisation Robin Hood Army wants to make the occasion count, with #MissionSwades – it will serve 10 million meals in 1,000 villages for Independence Day. More power to them.

#NationFirst | We asked Indians, What makes them take pride in our country and the responses were wide and varied.

Here's what they had to say.

#AsiaCup2023

By end-August, the ICC Men’s Cricket Asia Cup will be upon us. The excitement has begun. There is no denying that a tournament with India, Pakistan and SriLanka in it has a certain flavour. Bangladesh now are no minnows, making for a competitive line up. All the way up to September 17, there is some great stuff in store for Asian cricket fans. One hopes for an India-Pakistan cricket battle on the field that is as aggressive as the war of words that has begun.

#MahsaAmini

The US is in the news for the wrong reasons – reportedly striking a $6bn #IranRansomDeal with the Iranian regime. Even as the #IranProtests continues to its first anniversary. RIp Mahsa Amini.

Thank you @SenatorTimScott for speaking up against this disaster. We're looking forward to the Senate to stop this madness. #MahsaAmini
