New Delhi: In a landmark move for Indian media, Network18 has become the first media group in the country to appoint a Chief AI Officer dedicated to editorial operations.
The network—home to 21 news channels in 16 languages, four leading digital news platforms, and two magazines—announced today that Nalin Mehta, Managing Editor of Moneycontrol, will take on the additional role of Chief AI Officer – Editorial Operations.
In this pioneering role, Mehta will lead the integration of artificial intelligence into editorial workflows across all of Network18’s brands. His mandate includes driving the development of AI-powered content solutions, building a framework for ethical and responsible AI use in journalism, and fostering a collaborative AI ecosystem that brings together editorial, technology, product, and design teams.
A key focus area will be journalist training and newsroom transformation, ensuring that AI becomes a core enabler of editorial excellence—without compromising journalistic integrity or rigor.
This strategic shift will be underpinned by ‘Answers’, Network18’s proprietary AI tool. Mehta will work closely with editorial leaders and technology teams to deliver tailored, brand-specific implementations across the group.
Mehta will continue in his current role as Managing Editor of Moneycontrol, where he has played a pivotal role in reshaping business journalism over the past year. Under his leadership, Moneycontrol has emerged as a clear leader in the business news space, powered by a strong data-first approach, a structured newsroom model, and bold editorial innovation across formats.
