Mumbai: NDTV India has announced the appointment of Rohit Vishwakarma as its new Managing Editor, reinforcing the channel’s commitment to bold editorial leadership, original thinking, and future-facing journalism.
With over two decades in broadcast and digital media, Vishwakarma brings a rare blend of editorial instinct, multilingual fluency, and a track record of disruptive content innovation. His journey—from a remote tribal region in Chhattisgarh to the upper echelons of Indian media—is a powerful reflection of the changing face of Indian journalism and a new India that thrives on aspiration and access.
A graduate of IIMC and MICA, Vishwakarma’s career began at Star News and went on to include key editorial leadership roles at India TV, Aaj Tak, TV9, NDTV 24×7, Editorji, and most recently RTV News Network, which he launched in 2023 as Editorial Director. In 2019, he became the youngest Managing Editor of a national news channel.
What sets him apart is his linguistic and cultural agility—successfully managing editorial teams in Hindi, English, Marathi, and Telugu. Notably, he became the first non-Marathi editor to lead TV9 Marathi to the No.1 spot—a feat later mirrored in Telugu markets—underscoring his deep understanding of diverse Indian audiences.
Known as a “man of ideas” and a “team-first leader,” Vishwakarma has created pathbreaking programming across genres—from Wah Cricket with the cult-favourite segment Match Ka Mujrim, to Fund Ka Funda, one of India’s first shows simplifying mutual fund investments. His election coverage—from Dilli Ke Dil Mein Kya Hai to Uncensored debates—has consistently highlighted grassroots voices and civic concerns.
His field reporting has stood out for depth and urgency, especially during rural crises like the lumpy skin disease outbreak, which he helped bring into the national spotlight.
A digital pioneer, Vishwakarma led app-first content innovation at Editorji, and later launched one of India’s first AI-powered multilingual news platforms at RTV, allowing users to curate news playlists and engage actively with content. His editorial leadership during the 2024 Andhra Pradesh elections resulted in a predictive ground survey that drew over one lakh live viewers.
“News can no longer afford to speak from a pedestal. It has to speak from the ground up, and it must do so with honesty, humility, and purpose,” said Vishwakarma. “NDTV has always stood for credibility. My goal is to build on that trust and take it to a generation that demands transparency, participation, and truth without filters.”
Welcoming him to the role, NDTV CEO & Editor-in-Chief Rahul Kanwal said, “Rohit’s return is both a homecoming and a leap forward. His work speaks to the kind of newsroom we are building—grounded, bold, and built for a new India.”
Vishwakarma’s appointment is part of NDTV India’s broader editorial reset, one that places storytelling, truth-seeking, and on-the-ground reporting at its core—driven by a new generation of editors reshaping journalism for the complexity and diversity of real India.
