PCCW’s Video-on-demand streaming platform Viu has shut shop in India. The platform had launched in India in 2016. The platform operated on a Freemium model.
According to media reports, the platform had decided to opt-out of on-going projects. This morning a senior executive from Viu announced this news to their employees and told them that their services are no longer required.
As a part of their India originals Viu had created shows such as Love Lust and Confusion, Spotlight, Kaushiki, Memories, and chat show ‘What the Duck’ among a few others.
Viu is available in 17 markets across Asia, Africa and the Middle East including Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa.
Is this a sign of consolidation in the booming, ever evolving OTT space where the demand for content is ever-increasing?
