Dave Clark has stepped down as CEO of Amazon’s worldwide consumer business after a stint of 23 years. His last working day will be July 1, as stated by Amazon in a regulatory filing.
Clark mentioned about his departure from the company on social media platforms with an Email to his employees. His twitter post read, “I’ve had an incredible time at Amazon but it’s time for me to build again. It’s what drives me. To all I’ve had the honor of working with: thank you for making it so much fun to come to work every day for 23 years to invent cool, amazing things for customers.”
He joined the company’s operations division in 1999 and quickly rose through the ranks serving as a key force behind the expansion of its logistics and fulfillment network. Advancing from managing a warehouse in Kentucky to directing the whole retail operation. He was also in charge of Amazon’s warehousing and shipping operations, as well as overseeing the retail company during a period of boom during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Clark was appointed CEO of global consumer in August 2020 after Jeff Wilke stepped down.
Amazon did not name a replacement for Clark. In a blog post announcing his exit, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said, “Amazon is in the process of firming up a succession plan for Clark, and will announce an update over the next few weeks.”
